Bring the Family nearly total, 8000 visitors took advantage of the balmy holiday weather to get out and enjoy what McPherson had called, “the last chance for local con sumers to capture the goodness of the fresh peach in 1976.” “We had cars where we never dreamed we could,” says Mrs. McPherson. During Saturday, the first day of the event, ap proximately 1000 people showed up; on Sunday, 3000 more came; and the crowd hit its peak on Labor Day with a grand total of 4000 visitors for the day. Mrs. McPherson credits a lot of Monday’s traffic to the 12-quilt auction sponsored by the York County Farm Women’s groups, which was held in the afternoon. The proceeds from the sale are to go to the York County 4-H Center Kitchen Equipment fund. “We started a year and a half ago on this project,” explained Mrs. Ethel Gross, chairman of the project. While the idea had been decided upon for quite some time previous to the sale, not all of the societies finished early. “Some of them are hot off the quilting frames,” the chairman had commented. In total, the auction netted $2210, which Mrs. Gross thought was “pretty good, considering it was our first attempt.” The top two quilts sold for $3OO a piece.
