Eastern Pork Producers
celebrate pork day
By JUDY MITCHELL
Berks Co. Reporter
KEMPTON - The 14th
annual Pork Day celebration
sponsored by the Eastern
Pork Producers Association
got under way at 5 p.m. at
the Kempton Community
Center on Aug. 8, with over
3000 pork chops on hand to
feed an estimated crowd of
1000 persons. Although the
attendance figure at the
Association’s major
promotional event of the
year was slightly depressed
by the rains which continued
throughout Saturday, by 7
p.m. the pork growers had
served up close to 2600 chops
to an approximate 900
diners.
The “all you can eat” meal
was only one feature of the
gala event which also in
cluded a sauerkraut-stuffed
pig roast, dance music
provided by “The Top Hats,”
and a diaper-the-pig event
staged by Association
members.
The public was invited to
participate in several
competitions including a
ham raffle and guess-tbe
piglets-weigbt contest, but
the major contest event was
the barbecue pork com
petition won by Donald
Singer of West Reading.
Singer’s preparation of bis
“Savory Pork Pinwheels”
earned him the title of 1976
Barbecue King and a gas
grill donated by the Agway
Corporation.
