entertainment schedule set
KUTZTOWN - It won’t be
long now before the Kutz
town Fair opens its gates for
another exciting fun-filled
week.
Billed as “The Biggest
Little Fair in the State”, the
Kutztown Fair here will open
the 105th annual event on
Monday, August 16, and will
run through Saturday,
August 21.
Adding to this year’s ex
citement is an un
precedented array of top
performers who will bring
their nationally known
talents to the Kutztown
stage.
On Monday, August 16, the
fair will feature the Blue
Ridge Quartet, a group that
needs no introduction to fair
audiences, or any audience
for that matter. They have
traveled from coast to coast,
from Alaska to Mexico, and
are known the world over for
their soulful renditions of
gospel and spiritual songs.
Tuesday, August 17, the
live entertainment on the
Kutztown Stage will be Billy
Walker.
Billy Walker, the tall
Texan, is 6 ft. 3 in. and has a
career which has en
compassed appearances on
just about every major TV
show, personal appearances
throughout the world, and
performances in every
major arena in the U.S.
A regular on the Grand Ole
Opry in Nashville since 1960,
Billy today has his own
syndicated TV show, his own
band - “The Tennessee
Walkers”, his own bus, his
own office, his own
publishing company, and his
own tall Texan talent which
brought him his first hit
record “Anything Your
Heart Desires”, followed by
such greats as “Charlies
Shoes”, “Cross the Brazos at
Kutztown Fair
Waco”, “Circumstances”,
and his current hot chart
single “Sing Me a Love Song
to Baby”.
Wednesday, August 18,
will be a rare opportunity for
the people in the Berks
County area to attend an “in
person” concert by The
Hagers.
These identical twins, Jim
and Jon, present an intricate
blend of country, rock, folk,
and pop music with a flair
for comedy.
On Thursday, August 19,
Guy and Ralna, stars of the
Lawrence Welk Show, will
make their appearance.
Friday, August 20, Bar
bara Mandrell will put in her
appearance at the Kutztown
Fair.
Barbara Mandrell is a
country stylist who gives a
song and an audience, just
the right mixture of zest and
warmth. She’s been doing
just that since the age of five
when she learned to read
music before she could
decifer English.
Now a successful
Columbia Records artist,
Barbara’s releases include
“Midnight Oil”, “Show Me”,
“Playing Around with Love”
and “I’ve Been Loving You
Too Long” to Stop Now”.
Barbara includes a.gospel
number in each show,
whether in the U.S. or on tour
in Europe. “I ask people to
pay close attention to the
words because I am hoping
to inspire them in some
small way”, she said.
On Saturday, August 21,
brought back by popular
demand, again will appear
the popular Blue Ridge
Quartet.
The Blue Ridge Quartet
has consistently been the
pace setter of professional
quartets across the nation.
Although their present activities have roots in the
past, they know what’s happening today as well,
and they combine the past with the present. This
group of musicians blend various combinations of
guitar, bass, banjo, dobro, autoharp, jews harp,
snare drum, tambourine, maracas, and their own
form of showmanship.
