86-^ Maryland horse law toughened ANNAPOLIS, Md. - On July 1, a new amendment to Maryland’s Equine In fectious Anemia (also called EIA or Swamp Fever) regulations became ef fective. It requires that horses whose ownership changes shall have been tested negative for EIA within 12 months prior to sale or exchange. Dr. HughE. Binks, chief of the Animal Health Section, Maryland Department of Agriculture, who ad ministers the EIA control program, says state regulations require that the owner’s copy of the test State Grange chooses prince, princess HARRISBURG - John H. Keith, 20, of Entriken, Huntingdon County, and Anna May Snyder 19, of 126 S. 17th St., Camp Hill, have been named the 1976-1977 prince and princess of the Pennsylvania State Grange. In addition to representing the State Grange at youth activities in Pennsylvania, the two will be eligible to compete for national prince and princess honors at the National Grange convention in North Carolina in 1977. Keith, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry D. Keith, is a senior at Pennsylvania State University where he is majonng in dairy science. He is a member of Lincoln Grange in Huntingdon County and serves as chairman of the finance and youth committees. Miss Snyder, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Luther Snyder, is a junior at the Pennsylvania State University Middletown Campus majoring in ac counting. She is a member of Valley Grange, Lewisberry, and serves there as lecturer. She also is the lady assistant steward and youth chairman in the York-Adams County Pomona Grange. Horses destined for slaughter are exempt from the EIA test, but this class of animal must be purchased by a slaughter establish ment, Tenderer, or a Maryland licensed livestock dealer. Change in classification may be ac complished by appropriate testing of the animal while in the dealer’s possession. Maryland licensed Harrison, of West Chester, who will compete for national prince and princess honors at the National Grange convention at Atlantic City in November. Junior Grangers also selected a prince and princess to represent the five-to-fourteen-year age group for 1976-77. The honors were won by two Lehigh countians - John H. Shank weiler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Shankweiler, Schnecksville R 2, and Susan M. Young, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William P. Young, Schnecksville Rl. Shankweiler is a member of Schnecksville Junior Grange and a ninth grade student at TToexell Junior High School. Miss Young, also a member of Schnecksville Junior Grange, is in the tenth grade at Parkland Senior High School. They succeed James L. Snyder, of Camp Hill, and Stephanie Merkel, of Kutz town R 3. The state prince and princess and the junior prince and princess were selected at the annual Grange youth and junior camp sessions held at Spruce Creek, Huntingdon County livestock dealers who plan to assemble slaughter horses prior to transporting to an approved market must have their facilities inspected and approved by MDA in ad vance. Slaughter horses presented at a market for sale must be identified with a green paint “S” brand, measuring at least 12 inches both dimensions and applied on the left rib area.
