In the Junior contest for Strawberries graded NEW YORK, N.Y. - The U.S. Department of Agriculture proposed revision of U.S. grade standards for frozen strawberries to include the addition of a new style, “halved,” and to eliminate the uniform color requirement in U.S. Grade A and U.S. Grade B classifications. The program is voluntary. Officials of USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) said that over the past several years less attention has been given to uniformity of color in the classification of Grade A and Grade B strawberries. In stead, more emphasis is placed on the amount of berries failing to meet the minimum color requirements for light red or pinkish red berries and maximum color limits for dark colored berries.
