almost any situation. For

agriculture, she has put this
energy and charm to work
for fanning.
Active in many, many
organizations - at- the
statewide and county levels,
she does exclude some ob
vious womens’ organizations
for one reason. -
“When I get into an
organization, I make sure it
actively supports farming
and agribusiness. That’s
because men just don’t have
the time to get out there like
we do, so women just have to
take hold and do something
about it,” she explains.
Then, she adds, “This is
why I think women in
agriculture can be a real
moving force.”
She certainly is a moving
force, herself. Joyce has a
flair for public relations
work, so many activities and
offices within the various
organizations are centered
around this type of thing.
She’s on the National
Public Relations Committee
for Agri-Women treasurer
for the dairy princess fund
for York Co., news reporter
and advertising coordinator
for the Holstein Association,
and coordinator of “Dairy

Joyce hopes to display

from scratch and makes

an assortment of others.

“This year I mulched
everything because when
Bible School starts and other
activities come, the garden
just gets away from me, and
this year I don’t think it’s
going to,” she explained.
The only thing that could
possibly get away from her

vegetables - and her green
thumb. She has a habit of
letting this get away from
her.
She giggles when she tells
tike story of a neighbor who
brought a couple dozen
cabbage plants down to his

saw that he intended to plant
all of them she couldn’t help
but remark that he was
going to have cabbage
coming out his ears. To
this he replied that he always
plants a' lot and never gets
good results.
“So, I decided he was
going to have cabbage this
year,” she says.
“I got out there and
watered the plants and fed
them plant food, and now he
has so much cabbage that he
doesn’t know where to go
with it,” she chuckles as he
walks past with baskets full
of huge cabbage heads.
As she says, there are a
few things that take her
away from her garden.
