grandchildren. The grand
sons of Franklin M. are
working the Brown farm and
mills, and at least two of
their children have already
entered the business, Alton’s
son on the farm end and
Charles’s son the mill. It
seems apparent, therefore,
that the century-old Brown
family tradition that links
the farm and the mill will
continue for many years to
come.

400,000 elm trees annually,
according to the U.S. Forest
Service.
Lignasan, produced by the
DuPont Company,
Wilmington, Delaware, has
been approved by EPA for
use only by trained arborists
because special pressurized
injection equipment is
heeded to correctly apply the
compound. This is not the
type of hardware that most
homeowners would have
access to or know how to
properly operate. In ad
dition, some expertise is
needed to correctly identify
the elm disease as opposed to
certain other problems that
can afflict this tree.
