The contest is open to the public and entry is limited to one recipe per person in any one or all of the following categories- appetizers, soups, casseroles, beverages, cakes, desserts and or cheesecake, molded salads, and pies. Since the promotion of dairy products is the primary purpose of the contest, all recipes must contain one or more dairy products and consideration will be given to the amounts used. Suggested dairy products include; whole milk, skim milk and but termilk; butter; sour cream; yogurt; ice cream; and cheese - cottage, cream, Cheddar, etc. Dairy sub stitutes are not acceptable. Recipes must be received by May 28. Each recme should be labeled with a title and the category in which it is to be entered and the recipe itself should include exact measurements, mixing procedures, pan sizes and approximate number of servings. Entries will be judged on the use of dairy products, flavor, originality, ease or preparation and appearance (color and texture). Recipes will be screened by qualified judged who will select the six best recipes in each category, and entrants will be notified by June 7. These chosen recipes will then be prepared by the contestants at home and brought to the Berkshire Mall on Monday evening, June 14 for final judging that same evening. York 4-H council The York County 4-H council met recently at the 4- H center. The highlight of the evening was a slide presentation of a Mini Co-op by Deb Hemminger from Cumberland County, 4-H Clubs. Mr. Wayne Jacoby and Mr. Russell Wire were elected to the 4-H Center Board of Directors for a three year term. Application forms were passed out for five county camp and Leadership Congress. Five county camp will be held June 14 to 18 at Hidden Valley Camp in Perry County. Leadership Congress is to be held at Penn State University June Berks FFA’ers win land judging contest ELVERSON - The annual Berks County FFA Land Judging Contest was held at the Twin Valley High School on May 5. Twenty-five students from five area schools took part in the contest by judging three sample sites according to a scorecard developed for Pennsylvania divided into five parts: The Land; Land Cap Class for Agricultural Use; Land Use Recom mendation; Conservation Practices; and Hazards in Special Uses. The top ten students in ranking order were: David Breitenstein, Governor Mifflin; George Carles and MYER'S Dave Rudy from Tulpehocken tied for second place; Allen Heister, Conrad Weiser; Ken Sanner, Kutz town; Chris Bear, Kutztown; Gene Heffner, Kutztown; Greg Koenig, Tulpehocken; with Mike Stabolepszy from Governor Mifflin and Keith Whitehead from Twin Valley tied for ninth position. This will be the annual 4-H Center Clean-up. You are requested to bring along axes, rakes, shovels and other equipment to finish clearing brush. Buckets and mops will be needed to clean the inside of the building. The annual Rural Life Sunday Service is May 23, 7:30 p.m. at the 4-H Center.
