The grants totaling $625,000 are being made by the Cooperative State Research Service (CSRS), U.S. Department of Agriculture. Dr. Roy L. Loworn, CSRS administrator, says the grants are part of nearly $7 million that agency is awarding to state in stitutions for needed agricultural and forestry research this fiscal year. Overall, some 71 research projects are being supported from funds Congress has authorized for this purpose. The grants are com petitive. Final awardees are selected by peer review panels and CSRS. Proposals were received from all over the country, according to Loworn, and the grants also are going to universities in most of the states. In general, the research projects fall into four areas: soybean production im provement, discovery of soybean growth processes and their control, pest management, and plant nutrition and root development. In addition to grants for soybean research, CSRS has BOBBIE AMO GENES RABBITS Begin a new hobby that’s inexpensive, educational and fun for the entire Management Kit.
