Farm wife’s future discussed at York PFA Ladies’ Day Out By MELISSA PIPER YORK Nearly 100 farm wives from York County took a break from their busy schedules to attend the PFA Ladies’ Day Out Program held at Avalong Dairy here, on May 6. Keynote speaker for the day was Robert Stover, representing Production Credit. Stover “peered into the future” and gave the Berks Co. A ham dinner awaited the group at the home of Mrs. Lottie Burkepile with Mrs. Elsie Rothenberger as co-hostess. John Smith, county agent, introduced a film strip on Pa.’s bicentennial heritage which was produced by Penn State. The film gave a brief history of the Com monwealth and the people who carved a living on its land. Albert DeHoff, Dallastown, won the talent event with an original song and dance routine. Ethel Gross, Manchester, led the program’s devotions by reading selections from Proverbs and Psalms. Both passages revealed the handiwork of God’s plan for plants and animals. Betty Almquist was soloist and presented several selections. An originalskit concerning OSHA and the farmer’s responsibility for the health and safety of his workers was presented during the afternoon portion of the program. The skit was written by Gail McPherson and other actresses involved were Susan Gross and Joyce Bupp. The afternoon program also featured talks by John Hope Anderson, Helen Wivell and Dave Muzzy. Preliminary competition in the talent contest for Regional PFA ladies’ day was held with two youths participating. Continuing requests have led to a new printing of the bulletin, “Conquest of the Land Through 7,000 Years.” Originally published in 1953, the publication traces the role of soil and water conservation in the last several thousand years of history. In 1938 and 1939, Dr. W. C.
