Farm Women Societies - Society 8 The Society of Farm Women, 8, of Strausstown held their regular monthly meeting in the residence of Darlene Yost with 12 members present. Items are to be collected for a rummage sale scheduled for May 26 at the Leesport Market & Auction. President Shirley Strieker reminded'the members of these upcoming events': Berks Heim Tea, May 12; Spring Rally, May 12. It was announced the Farm Women ‘County Convention will be held on October 2, 1976, at the Agricultural Center in Bern Township. Special events chairman, Laverne Balthaser reports that plans for a night of entertainment to be held by our group on May 7 are progressing well. The members were reminded to send birthday, cards to Grace Kramer, their adopted patient at Berks Heim. Society 14 Farm Women Society 14 met at the home of Mrs. Melvin Stoltzfus for the April meeting. Member? an swered roll call by telling or showing their ' hobbies. During the business meeting it was decided that the group would make a “Tree of Life” 1 quilt. Mrs. Paul Hostetter reported from the Executive Board meeting their thanks for the volunteers that helped at the Heart Screening Program. The board decided the county project will be the St. Joseph ' Mobile Unit. Announcement was made that girls from Conestoga Cottage are in need for foster homes. A reminder of the Spring Rally to be held on May 12 was given by our president. The program was .in charge of Mrs. Melvin Stoltzfus who told us about heri different and interesting hobbies. The other hostesses in cluded Mrs. Clarence Groff, Mrs. Merle LeFevre, and Mrs. Clarence Herr. The May-meeting will be in the form of a bus trip to Win terthur Gardens and Museum on May 5. Society 15 Mr. Robert Aimes, project director of the Homemakers visiting nurse program in Lancaster County, spoke at the meeting of Farm Women 15 on Thursday, April 15 at the home of Mrs. Kathryn Wagner, ’ Quarryville. Organized in 1968 the program has been expanded to cover all of Lancaster County. Six homemakers have been trained by Mrs. Mylin, a registered nurse, who supervises the homemakers in the Southern end. They work week days from 8 to 4 o’clock among the elderly and recuperating persons who need help to care for themselves in their own homes. Hostesses assisting Mrs. Wagner were Effie Wagner, Jean Ressel, and Mary Vently, who led the devotions, followed by the flag salute. Members responded to roll call by telling a sign of spring beginning with initial of their last name. , Ways & Means chairman Jeane Barnes reported $107.00 had been cleared at the Leigh Walton sale. Also a Chickbn Barbeque will be held by FW No. 15 at the Shaub’s Auction Building in Kirkwood on May 29 from 4 to 8 o’clock. Following the meeting the committee held an auction of foods for supper. Auctioneer was Janrt Frantz. Plans were made to take part in the Community Bicentennial celebration to -be held May 22 from 10 to 4 o’clock at the Solanco Fair Building in Quarryville. Farm Women 15 are invited to be guests of 28 on June 24th at 7:30 at the tourist information center on route 30 east. A Bicentennial dinner and meeting will be held at Black Bock Retreat on June 10th at 12 noon, when 15 will entertain 2-20 and the county officers members will wear bicentennial dresses. A Mothers Day banquet will beheld on May 20 at 6:30 at Historic Strasburg. Farm Women 15 will help with the Pancake & Sausage Supper at the Middle Oc torara Church on May 1,4 to 8 o’clock. Donations for benefit of Millie Rinehart Fund. ■Two donations of $lOO.OO each were given to ill members in the community, also $50.00 to each of the community 'ball teams. Tripping Community chairman Kathryn Wagner reported bus will be going to the State Farm Women’s Spring Rally at Gettysburg on May 12. Bus load will be going to Wisconsin Dells leaving June 16 returning June 24tb and plans for a trip to Hawaii on August 8 for 11 days is being planned. Refreshments were served by the hostesses preceding the meeting. ' When tenderizing meat, don’t feel if “some is good, more is better”. Lancaster Farming, Saturday, May 1,1976 Society 25 Farm Women Society 25 held its monthly meeting recently at the Farm and Home Center. Society 12 were guests as well as the County’s first vice-president, Ann Diller. , Devotions were led by Mrs. Samuel Gass who read part of the Easter story followed by the Lord’s Prayer. Members demonstrated their favorite crafts during the meeting with hobbies ranging from quilt making to quilling. The next meeting will be a trip to Gettysburg on Saturday, May 8. Society 28 Farm Women Society 28 held a meeting on April 22 at the home of Mrs. James Bowman, Ronks. Mrs. Elvin Hess, Jr. served as co hostess. Mrs. William Dean reported that the food stand at Yungingers sale had netted the Society over $l6O. Members voted to give $lO to the Cerebral Palsy Fund and the same amount to the Easter Seals Society. Speaker for the program was Jack Matthews who owns . and operates the “Exotic Greenhouse” in Strasburg. The next meeting will be held May 29 at the Three Little Bakers dinner theater in Kennett Square - husbands are invited. Dora Brubaker led the group in an Easter devotional time. The group voted to give $5O to the St. Joseph’s Mobile Unit and $l5O to Teen Challenge. The next meeting will be held at die Bird-In-Hand Restaurant on May 27 to entertain Society 13. Society 29 Farm Women Society 29 held their monthly meeting at the home of Carolyn Newcomer, Mt. Joy, with eighteen members present. Devotions were in charge of Janis Drager, Marietta. Cookbooks, consisting of favorite recipes of each member, were passed out for our culinary enjoyment. On May 26 members will be serving dinner to Wyeth Laboratory employees. Our next meeting is a bus trip to Longwood Gardens, Franklin Mint, and a shopping mall on May 20. Our theme for the evening was a “Come as you are Party” resulting in an in* teresting variety of dress. We enjoyed an evening of mental and active games.
