April 21 Weekly 51 Cattle Compared with the previous week’s close: slaughter steers and heifers were unevenly 50-1.50 higher through midweek, some steers 2.00 higher as feeder buyers competed aggressively for those suitable for a short turn in the feedlot. However, limited late sales little better than steady under a dull late demand. Cows firm to 50 cents higher, bulls weak to 1.00 lower. Fleshy two-way feeder steers were firm to 50 cents higher. The fed cattle trade followed a very irregular course as it proved unusually sensitive to the rapid un dulations of erratic carcass trading, with day-to-day price variations often sub stantial. Steers made up ap proximately 37 percent, heifers 29 percent, cows 10 percent, and feeders 22 percent.
