Farm womens’
leaders meet
The Lancaster County
Farm Women Executive
Board meeting held recently
was called to order by the
President, Mrs. Robert
Gregory in the Chestnut
Level Presbyterian Church.
Attending were Ann Diller,
Ist. Vice President, Opal
Ruhl, 2nd Vice President,
Secretary Joan Hershey,
Treasurer, Kay Robrer and
Immediate Past President,
Dorothy Johnson. Thirty one
societies answered roll call.
The opening devotion was
presented by Mrs. Robert
Homer telling of the Easter
story.
Our guest speaker was
Melissa Piper who spoke on
communication which in
cluded Freedom of Speech,
and the Freedom of the
Press. Instructions were
handed out outlining how to
report on meetings.
All committees reported
with Mrs. Gregory bringing
up the need to revise and
bring up to date our Mem
bership Book. All society
secretaries were asked to
submit information.
The joint program bet
ween the American Heart
Association and' Lancaster
County Farm Women
Societies to hold a screening
day on April 10 at the Ist
Presbyterian Church in
Lancaster was announced.
After a roll call vote, the
St. Joseph’s Mobil Unit was
selected as the County
Project for (he year.
Members were reminded
of the annual Spring Rally
that is to be held in Get
tysburg on May 12, 1976. It
was reported that all tickets
have been sold and those
societies not yet receiving
theirs will get their money
bade.
Society No. 23 and 24 will
be responsible for en
tertainment of the guests of

The Half-Way House for
Girls started by area
churches reported that they
still need homes for those
girls who have completed
their stay at the Half Way
House. For those interested
please contact the Conestoga
Home for Girls.
Also, the Lancaster
Council of Churches are
looking for host homes for
children during vacation
time this summer.
A motion was made to send
a delegate to the Penn
sylvania State University for
the trustee election as
Lancaster County has thfc,
opportunity to one vote.
The next meeting of the
Lancaster County Farm'
Womens Executive Board
will be June 1, 1976. The
location will be announced
later.
Society 19
Society of Farm Women 19
held their monthly meeting
April 10 at the home of Mrs.
J. Lloyd Rohrer, Lititz. Miss
Dorothy Habecker, Lititz,
was the guest speaker during
the program. Miss Habecker
is a collector of fans and
gave a presentation on the
history and language of the
hand-pieces.
Easter devotions were
given by Mrs. Leroy Hot
tenstien. Members answered
the roll call by telling what
they were doing to keep
physically tit.
Mrs. Lawrence Van
Brookhaven was inducted
into the Society as a new
member.
The next meeting will be
held at the Farm and Home
Center at 12 noon on May 8.
Society 6 will be entertained
with a covered dish lun

Sewing contest set
HARRISBURG Another
record event is anticipated in
the Pennsylvania State
Grange’s annual sewing
contest which closes April 30,
according to Mrs. Leroy
Hoover, of Roaring Spring,
director of women’s ac
tivities for the organization.
Last year more than 2,800
entries were received, and
one winner Mary Schuler,
of Fleetwood R 3 was one
of four first place winners in
the National Grange com
petition. The goal for this

tries, Mrs. Hoover said.
Garments in the four
categories will be judged
locally immediately
following the April 30
deadline. This will be
followed by county and the
statewide competition in
May, Mrs. Hoover said.
First place winners in each
of the categories will then go
on to the_ National Grange
competition in New York.
