result, more Qian 100 truckloads of topsoil washed into the
pond. The valuable material has long since been removed
and re-applied to fields, some of which register a 12 per
cent slope. No significant problems have been en
countered since conservation practices were fully im
plemented.
A director of the Octorara Watershed Assn., Unde
thinks positively about conservation of resourcesnot only

planted dozens of trees, including numerous German
“Linden” trees, for decorative and environmental
purposes. They’re used in pastures for shade and to hold
steep banks in place; in woodland to add variety and
improve *humus, and near the bam as windbreaks. In
addition, the family has planted 30 rhododendron bushes
around the homestead.
