In addition to giving association members and their families an opportunity to get together socially for an evening of fine food and dancing, Fnday’s banquet was also the occasion for the final selection of the 1976 Berks-Lehlgh County Pork Producers Queen. Con testant's for the title this year were Joan Dietrich, a tenth grade student at Kutztown Area High School who is also enrolled vn the Food Preparation Program at Berks County Vo-Tech School, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Dictnch of Lenhartsville Rl, and Ardeth Wetzel, an 11th grade student at Northwestern High School enrolled in the Vo-Ag Program at Lehigh Vo-Tech School, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Wetzel of Kempton R 2. Following the final phase of the contest, the personal interview conducted Friday evening by Donald Reinert, an agricultural instructor at Kutztown Area High School, Miss Dietrich was announced to be the winner of this year’s contest and Miss Wetzel the first runner-up. Each girl had submitted an application and an original pork recipe prior to the banquet. The girl’s dishes in the order in which they were rated by the judges are: Creamy Mushroomed Pork Chops 4 pork chops, Vi to 1 inch thick seasoned flour for dusting 2 tablespoons butter Vz pound fresh mushrooms tablespoons finely chopped onions cup sour cream cup chicken bouillon 3 dashes white pepper 2 cups cooked noodles V* cup shredded cheese Preheat oven 350 degrees. Dust chops and brown. Slice mushrooms and saute them quickly in butter with onions. Stir flour into sour cream. Stir and heat just to boiling. Slowly stir m bouillon. Heat to boiling. Cook noodles in meat stock, adding more water if necessary. Combine meat, noodles, milk, eggs and salt; pour into greased two-quart casserole dish. Bake in pan of hot water in moderate oven (350 degrees) until set, about 1 hour. Cover with buttered com flakes last 15 minutes. The girls were presented with gift certificates from the Association, Joan’s in amount of $30.00 and Ardeth’s $20.00, for the Diana Shop, Crest Plaza, $lO.OO of which was donated by the Diana Shop. Each girl was also presented with a jewelry box from the Association and a charm bracelet courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Oswald of Slatington. Mrs. Catherine Rabenold, Kutztown R 2, Mrs. Winifred Oswald, Slatington R 2, and Donald Relnert, Lenhartsville R 1 were judges for the contest, and Donna Lazarus of Whitehall, last year’s Pork Producers Queen, crowned the new Queen. Since Pennsylvania is one of the few states in the Country which docs not have a State Pork Producers Queen, the Bcrka- I/chigh County Association hopes to have Joan represent the Pork Producers at the Form Show in Harrisburg next January.
