Correspondent KUTZTOWN - A hefty bulletin summarizing the poll year’s a.ni accomplishments of the Kutztown Area FFA and YFA members in local, county and state events gave evidence that a lot of hard work had gone into action, but Monday night at the Kutztown Grange Hall was a time for relaxation and recognition. One hundred and sixty-nine members and friends attended the Thirty fourth Annual Vocational Agriculture Banquet of the Kutztown Area School District sponsored by the Kutztown Area FPA-YFA which marked the end of the MEMO HAY, STRAW and EAR CORN SALE EVERY MONDAY AT 11A.M. The highlights of the evening were the presen tation of the Chapter Award Winners and entertainment in the form of a very lively sale. Toastmaster for the oc casion was Robert Ketterer, President of the Kutztown Chapter YFA, and Master of Ceremonies of the program which followed the dinner was Ronald Flicker, President of the Kutztown Chapter FFA. Greetings from the State FFA were conveyed by Bill Abrams, .State Treasurer, followed by fhq Ceremony of Receiving Honorary Members con ducted, by the Chapter Of ficers. Individuals awarded Honorary Membership for their contributions to a successful year were: Paul Siegfried, Father of Keystone Farmer, Dale Siegfried; Lester Breininger, Poultry Processor, Hamburg; Harold Ernst, Kutztown Agway Manager; Barry Adams, Social Studies Dept., Kutztown Air a High School; and Sandra Hartman, Teacher Aide, Vo-Ag Dept., Kutztown Area High School. The award program con tinued with the presentation Safety Color-Coded of 24 Chapter Awards to 14 individuals in four categories. Winners of the National FFA Foundation Medals were: Lloyd Adam, two medals, Outdoor Recreation and Agriculture Elec trification; Donald Dietrich, three medals, Crop Production, Ornamental Horticulture, and Swine Production; Ronald Flicker, two medals. Agriculture Electrification and Placement in Sales and Service; Michele Gladney, two medals, Placement in Agriculture Production and Public Speaking; Tim Kleinsmith, Poultry Production; Leon Moil, Soil, Water and Air Management; Dwight Romig, Agriculture Mechanics; and Kenneth Sanner, Beef Production. In the Special Award category: Kenneth Sanner received the award for Scholarship; Dale Siegfried was the recipient of the Keystone Farmer Pin and the award for Production Credit Ass’n Area Winner; and Jeffrey Miller received an award as Production Credit Ass’n State Winner. Chapter Star Awards were presented to Larry Shrawder, Star Greenband; o/fr lightweight Aluminum Ronald Flicker, Chapter Star Agribuainessman; and Kenneth Sanner; Chapter Star Farmer. The Young Farmer Awards were presented to Elwood Ohlinger as the Outstanding Young Farmer Over 30, and to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Meyers for Com munity Service. Following a brief comment by FFA State Reporter, Robert Stoltzfus, the Chapter Officers conducted the closing ceremony which brought the evening to its final event, the en tertainment portion of the program. Entertaining it proved to be as the “Slave Sale” got under way. As each “slave” appeared from behind the stage curtain, sometimes requiring a helpful push, Ronald Flicker read the appropriate work qualifications to prospective bidders. Nelson Blatt auc tioneered the bidding which was accompanied by a lot of good-natured exchange between the audience and the slaves.
