Ida’s
Notebook
As Spring approaches, I
hope to gain a lot more from
my walks to the mailbox
than I have the last few
weeks. Maybe walking for
the mail doesn’t sound like
much to you but for me it is a
three-fourth mile hike.
As I walk past the
woodland, I bear the ben
pheasants (long before I see
them) scurrying through the
dry brown leaves to disap
pear beyond the rise. The
grey squirrels scamper from
the cornfield, cross the lane
in front of me, and seek the
safety of a large tree.
During my strolls, I’ve
picked peach twigs, pussy
willow branches and for
sythia to force indoors. They
now grace the dining room
table and add a touch of
'Spring. I anticipate finding
more flowers as warm
.weather arrives.
We were quite disap
pointed last month to get a

We feel that farmers
missed a great opportunity
not only to see how business
operates but also to improve
relations with consumers of
farm products.
In previous years, we have
toured large manufacturing
concerns and also banking
institutions. Always, we’ve
been treated like royalty and
enjoyed a real learning
experience. Surely, the few
hours away from the farm
would have been mutually
beneficial. You’d be sur
prised at bow farmers are
misunderstood and with this
poor response we don’t give
them a chance to learn.
In Houston, the law says
you can’t buy rye bread,
goose liver or hmburger
cheese on Sunday If you do,
it is forbidden to take it out
of the store' In Massachu
setts, it’s against the law to
eat peanuts in church In
Evansville, Indiana it’s a

in lowa it’s illegal to serve
