Feb. 21.1976 —40-1 Hoober receives ‘XL’ award INTERCOURSE C. B. Hoober and Son, Inc., In ternational Harvester dealer, here, recently received the prestigious ‘XL’ award from the IH Company for his dealership’s outstanding performance in IH’a dealer programs. The award is so exclusive that Hoober is only one of four dealers in the entire Northeast (Albany) region to have achieved this recognition. Officially presented with the award here earlier this month during Open House ceremonies at his dealership, Hoober had previously been in Chicago to participate in the fifth annual National Dealer Council in which 18 select IH dealers from all over the country met with the Company’s Agricultural Equipment Division management to discuss matters of mutual interest. In accepting the award during his Open House activities, which was attended by approximately 550 people, Hoober thanked his customers for .“making it all possible.” WHEN CHANGE IS SUCCESS WE THINK BACK AND CALL IT GROWTH The IH dealer, who has been in business for 34 years and has customers stopping in from as far away as New York and Virginia, gave a short talk on the changes which have taken place in agriculture and how important it is for farmers to keep pace with new innovations. A huge Steiger 4-wheel drive tractor, which he has been selling since last summer, drove into the shop area just as he began his talk. Still something of a curiosity in this part of the country, the 14-ton behemoth captured the attention of the audience and appropriately served as an example for what Hoober had to say. “Who would have believed five or ten years ago that we’d be handling these kind of tractors,” Hoober exclaimed, even hinting that he himself had not thought it possible. “But this big tractor you see here is the seventh we’ve sold since July,” he added. He noted that the Steiger Company, of which IHC is part-owner, builds one such tractor every 20 minutes and Us dealership is only alloted eight for all of 1976. “There have been changes, and changes are going to continue,” the dealer continued, advising farmers to be alert and avoid being one of those kind of people who later wake up and wonder “what’s been happening.” Hoober also said investments for improved facilities, including machinery, are wise if the farmer has the credit available because otherwise building capital would be eaten away by taxes. In concluding his remarks, Hoober described the different attitudes people have regarding change. “But when change is success, we think back and call it growth,” he stated. International Harvester’s XL award is based on 10 factors, all of which must be met before the recognition is given. The program is two years old.
