44—Lancaster Farming Saturday, Dec. 6, 1975 Ida’s Notebook I feci that television is a mixed blessing in the home Probably I'll never com pletely forgive the person who urged us to buy our first television because it would be so “educational" for our children The day it armed, I became a censor of programs much to the disgust of the younsters. Apparently, I’m a lost breed. I discovered at the small supper gathering that “Emergency” is the favorite program of three and five year olds in several families. The sirens, halocaust and destruction of humanity was defended as “exciting.” I often told my family that if these dramatic events happened to them personally then they would be viewed in an entirely different beht. It is difficult to remember that there are few programs which are beyond reproach? Philip has just had a new experience as he worked Society 28 Society of Farm Women 28 held their monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. Ira Welk. Co-hostess was Mrs. Fred Esbenshade. He worked on the sound cffet ‘s and recorded some of our farm machinery on tape. He also use ’ the shotgun as they neec ed tapes of shooting too. My small part which seemed big was driving him back and forth night after night. My windowsills are alive with color as my impatiens plants sport 30-40 blossoms each in shades of pink, red, orange and even white. The begonias are not far behind in blooming ability. The last cut flowers of the fall season and the first ones of the spring seem to be appreciated so much more than all the others, (is that why people say the oldest and youngest child get special attention?) Oh yes, I got that cockbird finally. I shot him with the 22 rifle from the kitchen win dow.
