These cover such topics as “Losses from Operating a Business,” ‘‘Tax In formation on Accounting Periods and Methods.” “Recordkeeping Require ments and a Guide to Tax Publications,” “Tax Information on Partnership Income and Losses,” and more. However, for the individual looking for a handy, up-to-date, and comprehensive compilation of business-related tax in formation, the IRS suggests Publication 334 which covers just about everything there is to know. In addition to the wide array of publications, the IRS is also ready to provide year-round assistance to businesspeople either at an IRS office or on the phone should the taxpayer be some distance away from an office or find it inconvenient to make a visit. Most im portant, the IRS is ready to chip when a taxpayer an ticipates having tax problems; such as not being able to meet the deadline for deposit of quarterly em ployment taxes. In this connection, the IRS always advises the businessperson who anticipates tax dif ficulties to contact the IRS before, not after, problems develop. Very often solutions or alternatives can be worked out satisfactory both to the IRS and to the owner of the business - the alter native, of course, is to be a delinquent taxpayer with all of its enduing problems. Given the problems of merchandising, advertising recruiting and hiring, em ployee relations, labor unions, purchasing equip ment and the like, it’s not an easy job these days to operate a business.
