This coining Tuesday, at
7:45 p.m., the Garden Spot
Young-Adult Farmers will
present an educational
meeting on swine finishing
houses. The purpose of the
meetings will be to study the
advantages and disad
vantages of different
facilities used to fatten
swine. Colored slides and
diagrams of each operation
will be used to examine the
different facilities. In ad
dition, several of the swine
producers who operate these
facilities will be present to
comment on the successes
and problems encountered
and to answer questions.
Some of the different
housing systems to be
.studied are: total en
vironmenthousing (with and
without slats), Modified
open-front housing. Hog Hut
System, Cargill Open-lot
System, and a modular
finishing unit. Results from
previous research studies on
rate of gain and feed con
version in different facilities
will be available for study.
The meeting will be held in
the agriculture classroom of
the Garden Spot High School.
Interested farmers and agri
businessmen are invited.
