English Program Regarding the English Second Language program, Dr. Winger told the Board that there are now seven Vietnamese children in grades one through 12, one in kindergarten, and one Ugandan child and one Korean child in kin dergarten, none of whom are fluent in English. He also said there “probably will be more to come.” Under state law, a school district must provide a special English program for any child not fluent in the language. Last year the district spent approximately $3400 on this program and had budgeted the same amount for this year, before the influx of Viet families at the Gap. Dr. Winger said that the program could be acquired through Intermediate Unit 13, which would send a teacher into the district, at a cost of about $5,000. The Board authorized Dr. Winger to go ahead with the IU 13 program. TRY A CLASSIFIED AD!
