XXX Famous Oatmeal Cookies n 4 cup shortening softened 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar '■2 cup granulated sugar 1 egg U cup water 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon salt '6 teaspoon soda 3 cups oats uncooked Beating shortening, sugars, eggs, water and vanilla together until creamy. Sift together flour, salt, and soda; add to creamed mixture; blend well. Stir in oats. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets. Bake in preheated moderate over (350 degrees) for 12-15 minutes. Add chopped nuts, raisins, or coconut for variety. Rebecca Fisher Oxford, Pa. xxx Ginger Ale 5’4 cups sugar or 2 r ii cups honey 3 egg whites 1 tablespoon ginger 4 lemons V 4 teaspoon yeast Dissolve sugar in 2 gallons water; add beaten egg whites and ginger that has been moistened with water. Place in large pan and bring to boiling point. Skim and set aside to cool till lukewarm. Add the juice of 4 lemons and yeast. Stir well. Let stand several minutes. Strain through cloth and bottle. XXX Chiffon Chocolate Cake 2 eggs separated 11/2l l /2 cups sugar 1% cups sifted cake flour % teaspoon soda 3/ t teaspoon salt 1-3 cup cooking oil 1 cup buttermilk 2 squares unsweetened chocolate melted Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease generoulsy and dust with flour two round layer pans. Beat egg whites until frothy. Gradually beat in x k cup of the sugar. Continue beating until very stiff and glossy. Sift remaining sugar, flour, soda, salt into another bowl. Add oil half of but termilk. Beat one minute, medium speed on mixer. Scrape bottom of bowl constantly. Add remaining buttermilk, egg yolks, chocolate. Beat 1 more minute. Fold in meringue. Pour into prepared pans. XXX Raisin Drop Cookies Combine 1 cup of raisins and 1 cup water and boil down to % cup liquid. Cream % cups margarine and 1 egg and add 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 teaspoon soda. To this mixture add 1 cup sugar, 3 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking powder and a pinch of salt. Mix alternatley with raising and liquid. Drop by tablespoons on cookie sheets.
