The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph King, a dairying couple, Gwen believes that there’s no better place to grow up than on a farm. “I just couldn't imagine living in the city,” the at tractive strawberry blonde explained. “Out here you have all the room you need and I love it! ” While Gwen has not been a member of any formalized farm youth organizations, the young lady has been active in many school and community projects. Gwen is an active member and works closely with the Victory Chapel Church in the CochranviUe area. The young lady serves as organist and pianist for junior church and sub stitutes for adults church, helps organize the very successful bus ministry and also sing in the choir. “I enjoy working with the young people at the church,” Gwen explained. “We have quite a number of them attending and it keeps us very busy to see that they all stay in line.” Gwen devotes several nights a week to the church including choir practice and programs. At an earlier age, Gwen did much of the work at the barn during milking but younger brothers and sisters have now taken over her duties. Wilmer, PA Gwen King being a farmer’s daughter Gwen entered the contest and placed second, becoming Chester County’s alternate dairy princess. Gwen has represented the dairy enterprise by traveling to several events including the Unionville Old Timer’s Day and the Chester County Holstein Day. The youth will also be speaking at several banquets in the area this fall. Gwen has some definite ideas about how milk should be promoted and is anxious to work on them. “I feel the best way to promote dairying is to get the story to the younger children.” “If you can get the ideas to them then the adults will follow.” The Chester County youth is waiting for next spring to roll around again since she is going to enter the contest for a second time. An honor student, Gwen is interested in becoming a registered nurse. She would like to specialize in pediatrics as she enjoys children. But no matter where her studies may take her, Gwen says she’ll always be glad to be a farmer’s daughter.
