Record corn crop seen Maryland’s 1975 corn production is now estimated to be a record crop of 47,850, 000 bushels with an average yield of 87 bushels per acre. This prediction, based on crop conditions surveyed as of September list, is even higher than the August Ist estimate for Maryland corn of 46,750,000 bushels. The increase of 1,100,000 bushels The increase of 1,100,000 bushels comes through a hike in the average per acre figure which was set at 85 bushels in the earlier estimate. Good weather during August is credited with helping the crop. The corn prediction for Maryland was released today by the Maryland Delaware Crop Reporting service as part of the national crop estimates release by USDA. Maryland had been upping its corn production for the past three years showing million-plus bushel in creases. The 73 crop was 42.5 million bushels; the 1974 crop, despite a damaging frost increased by 2.4 million bushels and now, 1975’s production is expected to top 1974’s by 2 9 million bushels On the bad news side of the picture, Maryland’s 1975 tobacco crop is still estimated to come in at 25.3 million pounds due to bad weather experienced in July The 1975 harvest will be some 4,940,000 pounds under 1974, and 6,200,000 pounds less than in 1973.
