farming in 1955 with 500
laying hens and 1,00 broilers.
Today he has 90,000 laying
hens and an egg processing
paint to grade, candle, wash,
and package eggs. He also
raises 450 head of beef cattle
and 450 hogs.

official production record
exceeding a half ton of
butterfat has been com
pleted bv Willow Maple
Spruceleigh Anna 6492083
(VG), a Registered Holstein
cow owned by Willow Maple
Farm, Newmanstown. This
is the first time that
“Anna” has achieved the
1,000 lb. butterfat production
level in a single lactation.
This record ranks among
4,908 similarly completed by
Registered Holstein cows on
official test.
The Pennsylvania
Holstein’s official record of
production totalled 24,766
lbs. of milk and 1,006 lbs. of
butterfat in 365 days. She
started her lactation at the
age of 8 years 2 months and
was milked two times daily.

Anna was bred in the herd of
her present owner. She was
sired by Spruceleigh
Monogram ' Rag Apple
1119686 (VG), a bull that has
earned Silver Medal
Production Sire recognition.
Pennsylvania State
University supervised the
weighing and sample testing
of her production in
cooperation with the Dairy
Herd Improvement Registry
program of the Holstein-
Friesian Association of
America.
