HARRISBURG • More
than 1,700 dairy animals
were in the Farm Show
Complex this week for
several dairy shows. Among
them were 578 cows, heifers,
calves and bulls exhibited by
4-H’ers and FFA students
from all over the state who
took part in the Penn
sylvania Junior Dairy Show
on Monday. Those con
testants who placed first or
second in their classes
became eligible to compete
in the Pennsylvania All-
American Dairy Show which
began on Tuesday and
finished yesterday.
Competition in the state
wide show was limited to
those youths who are
enrolled in a qualified 4-H or
FFA dairy project whose
entries were blue ribbon
winners at district shows
earlier this year.
The Junior Holstein Show
was split into two divisions -
one for 4-H, the other for
FFA. Some classes were
further subdivided to ac
comodate the scores of
entries which were received.
Other breeds held a com
bined 4-H and FFA show.
Big winners from Lan
caster Farming’s prime
coverage area included
Russell Kline, Carol Balmer,
Nedra and Samuel Yoder,
Susan Seidel, Sharon Henley,
Mark Kirk, Dale Maulfair,
Wendy Shaw, Christine Gitt,
Pattie Kay Ocker, Bill
Henley, David Feidt, Dean
Daubert, Harry Leininger,
Debra Lou Miller and Edwin
Brummer.
Russell Kline of Reinholds,
a member of the Cloister
FFA chapter, made it three
years in a row as grand
champion in the Holstein
FFA show with his six year
old daughter Paclamar
Ivanhoe Black Eagle. The
son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon
Kline, his cow, “Fought
Land Eagle Ingra,” has
emerged as the winner of
number of dairy shows
previously. “Ingra” was also
senior champion.
Carol Balmer, 14-year old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Jesse Balmer, Lititz R 4,
showed the junior champion
in the Junior Guernsey Show.
Her senior yearling, sired by
“Nolichuckey T. C. Tran
sfer,” was one of a number
of Lancaster County
Guernsey entries to scoop up
blue ribbons.
The Yoder children from
Shoemakersville dominated
the Milking Shorthorn Show,
capturing every top spot
except that for reserve
champion showman and
fitter which went to Deborah
Miller of Saegerstown m
Crawford County.
Nedra J. Yoder, 16,

Canta 3rd,” a 5-year-old,
captured the grand and
senior championships. The
same animal won the
reserve grand championship
at last year’s show. The
winning entry was sired by
“Pinesedge Echo King ”
Nedra, a 4-H member for six
years, also won champion
