In the tractor driving
contest, each Berks County
FFA Chapter is allowed to
enter one participant. Twin
Valley was adequately
represented by Harvey
Bitler, In this contest, each
contestant is required to
make a preliminary safety
check on the tractor he will
drive. He then hitches the
tractor to a manure spreader
and drives through an ob
stacle course. The spreader
must then be backed into at
stall within only two inches
of clearance on each side.
Finally contestants hitch to a
four-wheeled wagon and pull
it from a stall and back it
into an adjoining stall with
six inches of clearance on
each side. Throughout the
contest, drivers are scored
on safety. This contest was
won by former county FFA
President Jeff Miller of
Kutztown, with Harvey
placing fourth in a class
contest.
In the vocational exhibit
class, the chapter safety
exhibit received third place,
while the exhibit on milk
received eight place. Both
exhibits had previously been
shown at both the Reading
and Allentown fairs.
In other recent shows,
Larry Stoltzfus exhibited his
dairy heifer in the
Southeastern FFA Dairy
Show and the Eastern
Pennsylvania Black and
White Show at the Kutztown
Fair grounds. The heifer,
Brook-Honey Needle Ada,
placed twelfth in Its class at
the FFA show and Larry was
awarded a blue ribbon for
fitting.
In the near future the FF A
chapter will be conducting
its annual fall hoagie sale to
sponsor the Elementary
Pumpkin Growing Contest
for all the elementary
students in the Twin Valley
District.
