Auction
Sept. 4
Weekly SI ■ cattle - com
pared with the previous
week’s close - for the holiday
shortened period, prices on
slaughter steers and heifers
were steady to firm, in
stances 25-50 c higher on
steers i following the sharp
advance of previous week.
Cows closed 50-1.00 lower
and bulls were weak to 1.00
lower.
Three day receipts 11,100
as compared 1,000 for
previous full four days, and
11,300 a year ago. Slaughter
steers approximately 37
percent of weeks supply,
heifers 30 percent, cows 16
percent and feeders for
Friday auction 15 percent.
The fed cattle trade
followed a stable course
following the Labor Day
holiday. Most interest came
into the week with fair live
inventories on hand and the
moderate marketings
balanced out well with the
numbers needed to fill out
requirements for the
shortened slaughter period.
The steer and heifer supply
mainly good to average
choice, but there was a slight
decrease in the volume of
short fed 900-950 lb. steers
and 700-750 lb. heifers.
Demand fairly good despite
a record slaughter for the
week ended August 30th and
Tuesday's estimated
slaughter of 146,000
promised to set a daily
record.
