Hunting season opens Monday
HARRISBURG - Penn
sylvania's 1075-76 hunting
seasons will be launched on
September 1, Doves,
galllnulcs and two species of
rails will again be the lead
off migratory game birds for
hunters.
The season on sora and
Virginia rails and galllnulcs
will open one-half hour
before sunrise on Spetember
1. Sportsmen are reminded
that dove shooting starts at
12 o’clock noon. Hunting
ends at sunset daily.
The dally limit for doves
this year will again be 12,
with a maximum possession
limit of 24 after the first day
of the season. There is a
daily limit of IS on galiinules,
with not more than 30 in
possession after the first day
of the season.

sylvania.
Hunters arc reminded that
the 1975-76 hunting license
must be used on and after
September 1. A federal
migratory bird hunting
stamp (duck stamp) is not
required to hunt doves, rails
and galiinules.
On a statewide basis,
hunters should expect to find
an adequate number of
doves this year. Conditions
for reproduction were rather
good, and migrating birds
should swell the supply to

Small game surveys
conducted by the Game
Commission indicate that
there arc upwards of 100,000
dove hunters in the state,
and that the harvest of these
fine game birds is in the
vicinity of a million a year.
Those who are in the habit
of field dressing doves and
urged to properly dispose of
all remains and unsightly
debris. Such a step can be of
immense help in improving
hunter-landowner relations.
A clean-up of empty
shotgun hulls, sandwich
wrappers, soft drink con
tainers, etc., is also in order.
Littering by hunters usually
results in posted land.
Hunters are urged by the
Game Commission to be
better conservationists by
taking additional steps to
pick up game which has been
shot. Federal regulations
provide that “No person
shall kill or cripple any
migratory game bird ...
without making a reasonable
effort to retrieve the bird and
include it in his daily bag
limit.” Use of a retrieving
dog is recommended.
