holds picnic
Lanai iter County Pomona
Orange 71 held their annual
picnic at the Huffnegle Park,
Quarryvllle, Saturday, Aug.
18,7 p.m. Mrs. Jesae Wood,
Lecturer, conducted games.
Pomona Master, Jesse
Wood, conducted a business
meeting when details for
hosting the Pennsylvania
State Grange Oct. 27-30 were
reported and the program
for the State Grange session
was announced. The Lan
caster Hilton Inn, Chestnut
and Queen Streets, Lan
caster, will be headquarters
with many delegates being
housed at The Host Town and
Holiday Inn motels and
elsewhere. The business
sessions will be held in the
Fulton Opera House during
the daytime and the evening
programs will be held at
McCaskey High School.
Talent contests will be held
Monday, Oct. 27 and
Tuesday, Oct. 28, 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 29 will be
designated as Youth Day.
Ritual contests will be held
Wed. 1 p.m. at Lincoln
Junior High School and the
Youth Dance will be at 9 p.m.
at McCaskey High School.

Wednesday. The Masters
meeting will be held in the
afternoon. The Junior
Grange Degree will be
conferred at 4 p.m. and the
Fifth Degree at 5 p.m. at
Wickersham Elementary
School. The Sixth Degree
will be conferred 8 p.m. at
McCaskey High School.
Clifford Holloway Jr., -
Thomas Galbreatfa and
David Brinton are in charge
of getting applicants for
degrees for Lancaster
County. The Tour Committee
has planned a Historical, an
Amish Land, an Industrial
and a Farm Land tour for
that afternoon also.
There will be several
banquets. The Junior
department will hold one
Tuesday, Oct. 28, 12:45 p.m.
at Christ United Methodist
Church, Lancaster. Past
State Grange officers will
hold a banquet Wednesday
noon and the Youth banquet
will be held at 5 p.m. at
McCaskey cafeteria. Also
the hosting Pomona
Granges, Chester
Delaware, Montgomery and
Lancaster, will entertain the
State Grange officials at a
pre-session banquet Oct. 28
at the Fulton Grange Hall.
Lancaster Co. Pomona
Orange will sell refresh
ments at the Southern
Lancaster Co. Community
Fairgrounds September 18
for workers setting up the
fair. The Women’s Activities
committee, Mrs. J. Stanley
Stauffer Jr., Mrs. Ira Welk,
Mrs. Charles Reath and Mrs.
Loran Brinton will be in
charge.
The following resolution
was adopted:
“WHEREAS, House Bill
1702 contains legislation that
would raise the fee for a
marriage license to $50.00.
And
WHEREAS, Such increase
would be imposing a tax on
some of the least able to pay
and would encourage many
couples to live together
without the ceremony of
marriage. And
WHEREAS, We already
have too much immorality.
Be it
RESOLVED, That Lan
caster Co. Pomona Grange
No. 71, meeting in regular
session, oppose any
legislation increasing the
marriage license fee.

alternate delegates to State

Youth Conference at Kutz
town Aug. 10th waa given by

Clifford Holloway Jr.
reported on the State Orange
Leadership School held at
Gettysburg College. Mr. and
Mrs. Jesse Wood reported
attending the election of
Trustees of Pa. State
University May 29.
The next meeting will be
held at White Horse Fire
Hall Oct. 18,8 p.m. as guests
of Salisbury Grange.
Roundup
announced
The Chester County 4-H
Roundup will be held August
26 at the UnionvUle Senior
High School. The 4-H
exhibits will be judged at
10:00 a.m., and they will be
on display for public viewing
from noon until about 2:00
p.m.
A wide variety of exhibits
will be on display including:
flowers, vegetables, baked
goods, insect collections,
stamp collections, con
servation displays, crafts,
etc.
A dog obedience show will
be conducted at 10:00 a.m.
and a fashion show will be
staged in the afternoon.
