Also special to view are
Funck’s collection of birds
that include Silver and Gold
pheasants, Rheas (the third
largest bird in the world),
Canadian geese, Egyptian
geese and quail.
The Funcks have received
license from the Game
Commission for progeny
permits and also have a
menagerie license from the
USDA to keep their animals
for the public.
Along with his animals,
Funck and his wife Polly also
cater to arranged hayrides,
a recreation often exciting
and nov& for city as well as
country children.
“Sometimes it gets hec
tic,” Funck explained, "and
there are times when I
wonder if I’ll get my main
work done, but in the long
run I enjoy teaching the
visitors about animal life
and letting them see first
hand just what nature
provides for us to see.”
There have been many
occasions when the Funcks
have given up their personal
time to conduct tours and
hayrides even though their
own farm work had to be laid
aside. But those times mean
little compared to the
satisfaction the children
have expressed in visiting
“Down on the Farm.”
