Holds Special Meeting Fleetwood Grange celebrated its 55th an niversary with a dinner for members on Friday, May 23, at Kutztown Grunge hall. Harold Schuler was chair man of the committee In charge of the arrangements for the banquet; other committee members were: Esther Schaeffer, Florence Levan, Elwood Noll, Frances Brauchcr, Albert Bieber, John Snyder, Kenneth Hoch, and Randay Turner. A. Wayne Readlnger, Past master of Fleetwood Grange and of the Pennsylvania State Grange, was master of ceremonies. The Invocation was pronounced by Melvin Gerhart, chaplain of Berks Pomona Grange. Welcome remarks were given by Master Kenneth Schlegel. An anniversary song written by Ernest Kniss was sung. The Jolly Gadgeteers, a novelty band from Allen town, furnished the en tertainment. This was followed with music for dancing, by the “Odessa” orchestra. They arc George Adam, J. Walter Baer, Hettie Bechtel and Mrs. Laura Heffner. Membership now totals 614. The first master was George W. Schuler who served in that office for 21 years. The first treasurer, Samuel Brauchcr, and the second secretary, Jere Schwoyer, achieved similar records. Through all these years of activity, the grange has community projects in mind, as well as cooperative educational and social functions. The grange always tries to encourage the public to become in terested in its work, thus public functions and open house meetings are held. A strawberry festival is also held each year. Just recently, the grangers made quilted articles which were donated to the Honduras Relief Sale. They conduct meetings which arc ap propriately called "Youth Night," sponsor plays, dances, and compete with other granges in bowling and softball. , The Legislative committee keeps members informed of various bills coming up in both Harrisburg and Washington, D.C. Since 1965, the grange has cooperated with the Fleet wood Jaycees in entertaining the senior citizens of the community. Many of the members are seventh degree grangers. Silver star pins and cer tificates have been presented to 148 members - those who have been members of the grange for twenty five years.
