Although DER has not completed its analysis of the survey data for the Philadelphia water system, It appears the level of organics in it is comparable to that in similar water supply systems with the exception of one organic chemical, bis-2-chlorocthyl BoxBo-B, RD4 Lebanon, PA Phone 867-4474 ether, which is a suspected carcinogen. Goddard said DER staff have been assigned to the Philadelphia water supply to work with the city in determining the origin of this chemical compound in the drinking water source. He stressed that the City already haa implemented atepc for removal of the chemical with powdered carbon at its treatment plant and pointed out that (he City of Philadelphia water supply complies with all current and proposed Federal drinking water standards. Although DER is con cerned about the level of bls 2-chloroethyl ether in the water supply, Goddard said, it considers the Philadelphia water supply safe to drink and strongly urges that users not turn to alternate water supplies which may be less safe. The survey results also showed that the Strasburg drinking water supply was not affected by organic chemicals and the chemicals found in the Western Penn sylvania Water Company supply were comparable to those found during the in tensive survey conducted last winter when problems were experienced in the service area. The levels were considered average compared to those found in other similar supplies across the Nation. M 'M The Chinese believed that wearing green jasper was good for the stomach. 411 W. Winning a CINE Golden Eagle makes “The Gold That Grows” eligible to enter over 100 foreign film festivals, he added. “The Gold That Grows,” the first film ever produced by ASA, is a fast-moving international documentary of soybean products and their uses. It stresses the importance of overseas markets and shows how they are developed for the benefit of U.S. farmers. Featuring foreign industry leaders and ASA overseas staff members, the film depicts soybean market promotion activities in Europe, East Asia and Latin America. Wasendorf said in-house production of the film by a staff member enabled ASA to produce the film for less than half of what a similar flim would normally cost.
