46—Lancaster Farming, Saturday. April 26, 1975 <;f * ,d ° s : (Nj o teb° ok ~ **“ — ~~ Now that I have a new dining room where our kitchen formerly was situated, there is a new or rather an old corner cup board in it. My mother tells me the cupboard originally came from this farm but was moved to a summer kitchen on another farm over one hundred years ago. In cleaning it. I’ve discovered that it has the original brass key holes on it. Joy! Joy! Now I can go to more sales and buy antique dishes to fill it. Recently I added a hat pin holder and two earthen Jugs. They were billed as German wine Jugs but in reality formerly held mineral "Quelle” or springs. Do you do what I do? Cut our recipes and intend to try them and then not find the time. My poor cookbook is bulging with untried ones. The other week a Farm Women Society was kind enough to give me their Dinner Bell cookbook and now I have more recipes to try. And I'm determined to do just that. ■•• Vi As we butchered a beef last week, wc had one more tongue to cure. There were several frozen and waiting to be cured and smoked. The little brick smokehouse that served us so well so long has been turned into a toolhouse for my garden • as it is setting in the middle of it. So we tried patent smoke this time but are rather apprehensive as we’ve always enjoyed that green apple wood smell. Preschooler Meeting Television is probably the most popular babysitter for children in today’s family - and it's free. Even the youngest member of the family can easily summon entertainment from the “tube” with a flick of a switch. Television has had a positive influence on children of this generation, but because it is so readily available, Trudy Dougherty, Extension home economist, Chester County, points out that it’s important you select the programs your child watches. To help you select programs that will be helpful and be an effective teaching tool, a workshop program on television guidelines for children is scheduled as part of a program on “You and Your Preschooler”. “You and Your Preschooler”, a program designed for parents of preschool children, has been planned. The program will be held at Thorndale Methodist Church, 3501 Lincoln Highway (Business Rt. 30), Thorndale, Tuesday, April 29 from 7:30 - 9:30 P.M. and Wednesday, April 30 from 9:30 A.M. to 12 Noon. Both mothers and fathers are urged to attend. Participants will be able to choose two of four workshops pertaining to preschoolers and will be given an op portunity to “learn by doing” in the various workshops. In addition, educational displays relating to the topics will be on view and handout material will be available. The program is open to all Chester County parents of preschoolers. To register, call the Chester County Cooperative Extension Office, 235 W. Market St., West Chester, 696-3500. IS. INC.
