Grange Proposes Resolutions
Lancaster Co. Pomona
Grange 71 held their spring
meeting at Oakryn as guests
of Fulton Grange April 19, 8
p.m. The Master, Jesse
Wood, presided at the
business session when the
following resolutions were
adopted:
WHEREAS. Pennsylvania
Power & Light Company has
petitioned the Pennsylvania
Public Utility Commission
for a 4 per cent increase
effective May 30, 1975, to
raise approximately 21
million dollars and an 11 per
cent increase to raise ap
proximately 59 million
dollars, or a total of 15 per
cent of their total present
revenue. And
WHEREAS, Just a few
years ago the same company
was urging everyone to
install electric heat and
electric appliances, with the
story that as more
customers were added to the
line the cost of delivering
electricity would decrease
rather than increase. And
WHEREAS, The 15 per
cent raise asked for is to be
applied almost entirely to
total electric home owners,
farmers and other big users
of electricity. And
WHEREAS, The last raise,
plus the fuel adjustment, has
already almost doubled the
present cost of electricity.

* J. A. GILBERT, PROP. *
WHEREAS. The
suggested use of the 80
million dollars is to be used
to build atomic plants and
pay larger dividends to the
stockholders. And
WHEREAS, Lancaster
County had entirely too
many atomic plants in the
environment for healthy
living. Be it
RESOLVED, That Lan
caster County Pomona
Grange No. 71, meeting in
regular session, petition the
P.U.C. to deny this increase
on the grounds that it is very
unjust and unfair.
WHEREAS, The farm bill,
as adopted by the House and
Senate, is in danger of a
Presidential veto. And
WHEREAS, The farm bill
would not be inflationary, as
the present market prices
are well above the price
levels contained in the bill.
And
WHEREAS, The price
increase in the bill will not
encourage production
beyond our present level, as
we are almost at full
production now. And
WHEREAS, Farm prices
are now at a point that many
farmers are dropping out of
production. Be it
RESOLVED, That
Lancaster Co. Pomona
■Grange No. 71, meeting in
regular session, go on record
asking our Legislators in
Congress to override a
Presidential veto, should
that happen.
WHEREAS, Our State
Senate is considering a bill
that would declare the
growing and harvesting of
mushrooms a non
agricultural occupation. And
WHEREAS, The net result
would be that the already
troubled mushroom farmers
would have to contribute to
the unemployment com
pensation fund. And
WHEREAS, Mushrooms
are a food and their
production is definitely an
agricultural occupation. Be
it
RESOLVED, That Lan
caster Co. Pomona Grange
oppose any legislation that
would change this status.
WHEREAS, Current
Federal Communications
Commission regulations
restrict pay TV operations to
major markets already
served by existing free TV
signals, providing viewers
access to programming from
all three major networks.
Other regulations strictly
limit what these operations
can siphon from free TV and
charge you for them. And
WHEREAS, Revised
regulations are now being
prepared by the F.C.C.
which will relax some of the
restrictions on syphbning,
depriving millions of viewers
the pleasure of watching
their favorite iprograms
without joining pay TV. Be it,
RESOLVED, That Lan
caster County Pomona
Grange No. 71 petition the
F.C.C. to maintain their
present strict regulations on
syphoning. And be it further
RESOLVED, That we
oppose the legislation
prepared by the White House
Office of Telecom
munications Policy which
would forbid the F.C.C. from
any regulatory control over
syphoning.
Concerning a bill in the
State Legislature to protect
farmland from high front
footage assessments on
sewer and water service, as
in most cases he does not
when he has housing
development next to his
property, he should not be
compelled to pay frontage.
Also water sewer authorities
should not be permitted to
put a lien on farms, which
would render them un
saleable. They further stated
that those authorities should
have to pay damages for
crossing farmers’ proper
ties. They took the position
that land should be in
agricultural use for seven
years prior to a water or
sewer line installation in
order not to have to pay
frontage.
