Although relatively new,
the program has been well
accepted by the students who
have shown a great deal of
interest in working with
conservation efforts.
The Chapter has put some
175 hours into helping the
New Holland Jaycees in the
Nolt Pond Community
project along with con
structing several jack dams,
gabion nets and deflectors
for the Cocalico Watershed

Association. The students
have also erected numerous
mallard duck nests, squirrel
dens, bird houses and
feeders in the community in
an effort to preserve and
protect the natural wildlife
of the County.
Students, as projects, have
raised pheasants and
stocked them in cooperation
with the Pa. Game Com
mission and the Adamstown
Rod and Gun Club and have
also planted over 2000
seedlings on Outdoor Con
servation Labs and com
munity projects.
For two consecutive years
the Chapter has won the FFA
BOAC (Building Our
American Communities)
Award in State Competition
and last summer was named
the North Atlantic Region

For their outstanding work
in soil conservation projects,
the Chapter has also won the
County and State Soil Con*
servation Service Award for
two years and last year
placed third in the nation.
The individual students have
also won numerous awards
for their work both in con*
servation projects and in
regular FFA competitions.
On Thursday evening,
April 10, the Chapter held its
first awards banquet to
honor those members who
had contributed to the
success of the program.
Certificates of appreciation
were given to many in
dividuals who had helped the
Chapter in their work in
cluding: Paula Grubbs,
Garden Spot High School,
Mrs. Mary Hartman, FFA
parent; Mrs. Pat Rhoads,
FFA parent; Philip Musser,
New Holland Sportsman
