Awards Presented At Elco FFA Banquet
Achievement awards
along with the presenting of
FFA degrees highlighted the
13th annual Elco Future
Farmers of America
(Lebanon County) banquet
held at the Elco Middle
School on Thursday evening,
March 13.
Dean Heisey, president of
the Elco FFA chapter, acted
as toastmaster to the 200
persons in attendance.
David Adams, advisor to
the Elco group, presented
awards to freshmen Renee
Igram, Mel Hoover, Dwayne
Kieffer, Francis Stamm and
Dave Wenger; sophomores
Brian Hunsicker, Bill
Bennetch, Bob Martin,
Stacey Woods and Kirby
Horst; juniors Darryl Kurtz,
Marlin Heisey, Jerry Har
tranft and Gerald Hogeland;
and seniors Michael Bender,
Dan Ober, Sue Swisher, Ken
Ritchie, Carl Lutz, Tom
Ulrich, Gene Sholly, Scott
Sweigart, Carl Weaver and
Dean Heisey.
The Star Chapter Farmer
award was presented to
Dean Heisey, while the Star
Greenhand, presented to the
outstanding freshman in
vocational agriculture, was
awarded to David Wenger.

awards are given to those
citizens who lend assistance
and help to advance the

Mrs. Irwin Sweigart, Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Heisey and
John Weaver.
Elco boys receiving
special recognition were
Kirby Horst, com produc
tion; Darryl Kurtz, Swine
production; Jerry Hartranft,
poultry proficiency; Gerald
Hogeland, crop production;
Carl Weaver, dairy
proficiency and DeKalb
award; and Dean Heisey,
public speaking.
The county project book
awards were presented by
Larry Wenger, an FFA
alumni. Winners were
Gerald Hogeland, Ken
Ritchie, Robert Martin,
Kirby Horst, Irwin Daub,
Scott Sweigart, Wayne
Bucher, Jerry Hartranft,
Brian Hunsicker, Darryl
Kurtz, Donald Hamish and
Gene Sholly.
The Elco FFA Alumni
Association made a special
presentation to Ronald
Bowers, the Young Farmers
Instructor, for his help and
assistance during the year.
The alumni association also
presented monetary awards
to Kirby Horst and Stacey
Woods.
The Keystone Farmer
Degrees were conferred
upon Dean Heisey pnd Carl
Weaver. They were
presented by Harvey A.
Smith, Area Vocational
Consultant.
One of the highlights of the
evening was the presentation
of a resolution and plaque
from the Pennsylvania State
Legislature and presented 2
by the Sen. Clarence F.
Manbeck to John Moyer,
Newmanstown RDI, for
attaining the distinction of
being named North Atlantic
Regional Star Farmer.
