Monday, March 3 for their annual meeting, primarily to On Thursday, April 10, the Cooperative Extension Service will be conducting a seminar on home grounds care and maintainence for anyone wishing to know how to do it themselves. The program will be conducted from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the 4-H Center, near Bair, Pa. Program participants for the seminar will be J. Robert Nuss, Ornamental Hor ticulture Specialist, Penn State University and David A. Hart, Ass’t. County Agriculture Agent. Some of the topics covered will be: Types, sizes, shapes and textures of plants used around the home; lawn care, fertilization, mowing, aeration and seeding; General Landscape Prin ciples on basic design and plant placement; Insect problems; Pruning Prac tices; and then time for questions at the end. It is being oriented toward the homeowner, so come on out and hear the “how-to-dos” in layman’s terms. Special guest speaker was Mr. Wray Finney, an Oklahoma rancher, who is serving as the Vice President of the American National Cattlemen’s Association. Mr. Finney explained the problems with the over supply of beef cattle, which has depressed market prices, and reduced profits of the beef business, and has even caused great financial losses for some of the larger beef cattle operators. He expects it will take a few years before the over supply situation is corrected, and when once again beef can be produced by farmers and cattlemen at a profit. Finney expressed concern that many beef cattle producers may not continue to produce beef, which will result eventually in beef shortages and less than maximum utilization of the land resources in the United States.
