Roll call was answered by 20 mem bers with “my favorite rainy day pastime.” Donations were voted to Easter Seals and the Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren. Reports on the food stand at the Weaver’s sale was very successful. The president, Mrs. Ernest Shaub, suggested having a verbal current events discussion with the members telling of a recent adventure or happening. This was followed by a Spelling Bee conducted by Mrs. Stanley Stauffer. Mrs. John Lefever won the contest. The next meeting will be held on April 3 at Mechanic Grove. Sewing will be done and a covered dish luncheon will be served at noon. Society 13 Farm Women Society 13 held a' luncheon meeting, Saturday, March 8, at the Lancaster Farm and Home Center, in honor of guests from Society 30 and the Executive Board. There were 24 members and 15 guests present for the event. The president, Mary Ann McClenaghan presided at the meeting with the en tertainment being led by Mrs. Lydia Denlinger. The speaker for the af ternoon was Mrs. Lucille Grenedaal, whose talk was a message to women. Mrs.'Kay Heller led in the singing the theme song, “Brighten the Corner,” and also presented two solo numbers. Society 5 Society of Farm Women 5 held their February meeting at the home of Mrs. Herbert Frey. A Bring and Brag Auction was included in the program. Society 5 will give $lO.OO to Easter Seals, and voted to contribute to Goodwill as a county project. Our next meeting will be held at the home ofMrs. Sam Zurin, March 22. The speaker will be Mrs. Lawrence Tucci. Berks Co. Society 8 Farm Women Society 8 of Berks County met at the home of Mrs. Donna Hlx, Bemville Rl, on Tuesday, Feb. 25. President, LaVcrn Qalthaser presided at the business meeting with 14 members in attendance. The Ways and Means Chairlady, Shirley Strieker, announced there will be a ham-on-roll sandwich sale on April 5. Orders are to be handed in by March 29. The sandwiches will be made at the home of Mrs. Doris Koenig, Bemville R 2. Plans for the upcoming year were discussed by Mrs. Helen Shirey, head of the program committee. Announcement was made that Grace Kramer will be the Society’s new adopted patient at the Berks Heim. Sixteen members of the Society will be attending the Spring rally at the Hershey Convention Center on April 30. The program for the evening was a talk given by Mrs. Jean Johnson, from Met-Ed on the topic “Life as a Minority.” The next meeting will be held on March 25 at the home of Mrs. Shirly Berger, Shartlesville with a Sunshine Party as program for the evening. Berks Co. Executive Board Anne Yanos, Berks County President, presided at the regular bi-monthly meeting of the County Executive Board of the Society of Farm Women which met at the Berks County Agricultural Center. The annual Spring Bingo Party for the residents at Berks Heim is planned for April 3 at 7 p.m. All local societies are responsible for prizes. Each society will also be donating cookies for the Berks Heim Volunteer Tea April 23. Dorothy Strieker was appointed chairman of the Berks County Convention committee. The conventon will be held at the Kutztown Grange Hall October 4. Final plans were made to attend the Society of Farm, Women Spring Rally April 30 at the Hershey Convention Center, Hershey, Penn sylvania. Joann Ebling was ap pointed Berks County Publicity chairman. The group was urged to participate in the volunteer programs at the Hamburg State School. Chairman Carol Zechman suggested many opportunities for local societies to contribute support. The next meeting will be at the Agricultural Center May 5. Silver-Spurs 4-H dub The March meeting of the Silver Spurs 4-H Horse and Pony Club was held at the home of Amy Katz, Lan caster. There were 22 members, 3 leaders and 4 parents in attendance. 4-H enrollment cards were completed by members and members received their 4-H cards and project books. The 4-H horse bowl and Judging events were explained. The club will be par ticipating in the 4-H Expo at Park City and will have an exhibit following the theme of running a horse show. The committee members for the Expo are Randy Click, Jim Glick, Sue Baker, Lenny Matroni, Donna Bare and Cherri Gochnauer. Members of the club were asked to contribute baked goods to the county council bake sale to be held March 15 at the Expo in Park City. The club -will hold its Grooming and Showmanship, at Rocking G Stables on June 17. Several of the members will be traveling to Colorado on June 28 for the 4-H ex change. Demonstrations were presented by Ruth Robbins on Horse Diseases and Cures while Jeff Bare demon strated how to make a rope halter. The next meeting will be held at the home of Sue Baker on April 4.
