Facts About Onions
To keep eyes from

onions, slice or cut onions

a roast or meat stew by
sticking three whole cloves
into an onion and cooking
with it. Delicious!
When selecting onions,
look for large, round onions
with burnished, delicate,
golden-bronze, paper-like
skins that crackle at the

Brown Sugar Drops
1 cup soft shortening
2 eggs
2 cups brown sugar
hi cup soured milk or but
termilk
3*4 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
Mix shortening, brown
sugar and eggs thoroughly.
Stir in milk. Measure flour
by sifting. Blend flour, soda
and salt. Chill at least 1 hour.
Heat oven to 400 degrees.
Drop rounded teaspoonsful 2
inches apart on a greased
baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10
minutes or until almost no
imprint remains. Makes
about 6 dozen cookies.

Rice Cakes
1 cup cooked rice
3 eggs separated
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon sugar
Range
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup flour
4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon melted butter
Add beaten egg yolks to
warm cooked rice and beat.
Add all the other ingredients
and mix together. Fold in
stiffly beaten egg whites.
Drop by spoonful onto hot
griddle and brown on both
sides. Serve with syrup.

2 eggs
2 cups granulated sugar
2 tablespoons butter
3 cups flour
2 cups dates
2 cups boiling water
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons vanilla
Bake at 35-40 minutes at
350 degrees.
Norwegian Pie
2 cups cooking apples, sliced
or diced
1 cup nuts, pecans or walnuts
1 cup flour
P/2 cups granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
Vfc teaspoon salt
2 eggs
teaspoon vanilla
Mix dry ingredients
together adding eggs, ap
ples, nuts and vanilla. Mix
thoroughly. Butter sides and

Cherry Coke Salad
1 pound can bing cherries
1 pound can crushed
pineapple
1 - 6 ounce package cherry
flavor gelatin
2 (64 ounce) bottles of cola
soda
Drain juice from fruit; add
water if necessary to make 2
cups. Heat juice to boiling
and add gelatin stirring until
dissolved. Cool and add cola
and fruit. Pour into 14 quart
mold. Chill until set. Serve
with salad dressing, cream
cheese dressing or whipped
cream. Makes 8 servings.
