Ida's ■ Notebook *4MI - M* 1 * ■ "* A new year has begun and all of us are likely to think of a few ways in which we could improve ourselves. But for most people it will just be a continuation of the same daily life as before. If we are surrounded by family and friends and are in good health we simply don’t realize our many blessings. This past season my sister and her family drove in from Michigan and explained how much it meant to her to visit home territory again, even though the preparations for a week’s trip are enormous. Our daughter phoned on Christmas day for a long talk with everyone and we plan to send her a tape of our ac tivities. It seems that home and family are appreciated more by those who are far away. “If winter comes, can spring be far behind?” We’ve heard this statement many times and it was what I thought of when I got my seed catalog in the mail ten days ago. The cover is colorful with flowers, tomatoes and a cut cantaloupe. In leafing through the pages every hue and tint seems to strike the eye. I simply must try a few new kinds of flowers next year or maybe plant okra and kohlrabi again as the younger children don’t remember them. cups diced carrots cans peas cans cream of celery soup cups macaroni quart tomato juice 1 lb. grated cheese Fry bacon and remove from pan, add onions and hamburger in bacon juice.
