4-Hers Receive Awards
at Horse Recognition Banquet
An overwhelming crowd of
4-Hers, their parents,
leaders and friends gathered
at the Farm and Home
Center on Saturday evening,
December 7th, for the first
annual 4-H Horse
Recognition Banquet.
Serving as toastmaster for
the event was James
Gallagher, Horse Specialist
at the Pennsylvania State
University.
Awards were presented to
the members of the Horse
Bowl Team and Horse
Judging Teams that had
participated in State 4-H

competitions as well as those
youngsters that had won in
the State 4-H Horse Show in
November.
Special awards, that in
cluded areas of perfect at
tendance, beat demon
stration and teen leadership
were given out by Jay Irwin,
Associate County Agent.
For the first time, a
special set of awards entitled
“Good Humor” awards were
presented to members of the
Horse dubs that had been
involved in difficult cir
cumstances but came out
laughing.
Chairpersons for the event
were Mrs. Joseph
Gochnauer and Mrs. Rose
Fellenbaum. Musical en
tertainment was provided by
Randy and Jim Click along
with solo numbers by
Frances Tice.

cows in the herd of Raymond
& Louise Witmer, Penn-Del
Farm, Willow Street,
Pennsylvania, have recently
completed top official DHIR
actual production records,
according to The American
Guernsey Cattle Club. All
cows were milked two
times a day. The testing was
supervised by Pennsylvania
State University, University
Park, Pennsylvania.
Guernsey milk is world
famous for its high protein,
delicious flavor and Golden
Yellow color.
Penn Del Boys Cherry, a
five year old, produced
14,710 pounds of mUk and 744
pounds of fat, in 305 days.
Penn Del Charming Nettie, a
two year old, produced 12,190
pounds of milk and 575
pounds of fat, in 305 days.
Penn Del Charming Glenna,
a two year old, produced
12,340 pounds of milk and 587
pounds of fat, in 305 days.
The March of Dimes
supports programs for in
tensive care of “hgih-risk”
pregnant women and sick
newborns to help improve
maternal and infant health.
