we’ve signed up 44 new herds
in the past 11 months. And
every one of the new
members I’ve talked to said
he started testing because he
wanted to get more money
from his herd.’’
During the program,
production awards were
presented to members whose
herd averages topped 500
pounds of fat for the year,
and other awards went to
those whose herd averages
went over 600 pounds of fat.
The top high fat award
went to Rufus G. Martin,
Ephrata. whose herd

Jacob Dienner, Gordonville,
was the high milk producer,
with 18,034 pounds of milk,
630 of fat. Dienner’s was also
the high Holstein herd in the
county.
The top five milk

Kauffman, 17.560 M,
Christiana; John N. Shirk,
Leola, 17.368 M; Leroy M.
Oberholtzer, Manheim,
17.235 M; Elam Bollinger,
Manheim, 17,074 M.
Plaques also went to the
high producing herd in each
breed. Horace Mann,
amanger of the Masonic
Homes Farm herd, accepted

Earl Baum, fieldman for
the Pennsylvania DHIA,
spoke to the group and added
emphasis to president
Kauffman’s comments about
the importance of testing. He
said Pennsylvania has 700
more cows on test this year
than last, and that statewide
the herd average is hovering
just below 500 pounds of fat.
He also pointed out that cows
with records generally sell
for from $2OO to $3OO higher
than cows without test
results.

too, and told them that
