    Line-up Soybean
Supply Early
It’s n«fc too early to start
lining up the soybean seed
you’ll need in 1975. Un
favorable weather con
ditions last summer have
caused a widespread range
in quality and germination,
according to Dr. William H.
Mitchell, extension
agronomist at the University
of Delaware. You’ll have
more selection in varieties
with early buying of soybean
seed and usually less

pressure on price, he says.
Several states have
reported poor quality of
soybeans at harvest because
of a combination of rain
drought-rain-early frost
weather conditions. Other
states had early frost con
ditions which, in some in
stances, stopped bean
growth before maturity. This
may lower the germination
to an unacceptable level
depending on how mature

planting rate.
Mitchell predicts that the
Delaware supply of certified
seed will foe fair to good.
Several fields have been lost,
though, because of poor
weed control and frost
damage. In spite of this, he
sees the Delaware supply as
“a little better” than that in
some northern states.

potential for low quality
because of this past season’s
weather, 1975 is a year to
make special use of seed
treatment with a fungicide
and-or an insecticide to help
prevent seed decay, dam
ping-off of seedlings and
insect injury. If both seed
treatment and inoculation
(necessary when planting on
ground where soybeans have
not been planted recently)
are required, it is best to
treat the seed with fungicide
or insecticide early. Then
apply the inoculant just
before planting.
Toy Storage
Provide low shelves for toy
storage so your child can
easily find and select his
toys. He’ll be able to see
them all at one glance.

work to get his toys by
digging through a jumbled
toy box can easily become
frustrated and lose interest
in his toys.
