Society 15 The meeting of Farm Women 15 was held Thur sday, November 21, 1:30 p.m. at the Union Presbyterian Church. Hostesses were Mrs. Evelyn Myer, Mrs. Jessie Trimble and Mrs. Colleen Shoemaker and Mrs. Gertrude Weicksel. Mrs. Trimble led the opening devotions followed by the flag salute. Thirty-two members and 1 guest responded to the roll call by telling a cooking mistake they had made. Minutes were read by the secretary Alma Maule and treasurer’s report by Mary Howett. Ways and Means Committee chairman, Janet Frantz reported having received $32.65 from the “Dish for Supper” sale held at the October meeting. The committee makes $717.15 during the year. Mrs. Ida Rinehart reported that sewing had been done by the sewing circle. The president, Mrs. Emily Greenwald appointed Sadie Greenleaf and the incoming president, Kathryn Horner as representatives to the annual executive meeting of the solanco Family-Health Center in Quarryville. She also announced that the * * * • .in.,, n »m i ntlHitmKtHi society will sponsor a con testant for the Miss Solanco pageant. She is Miss Darlene Repsch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Repsh. Miss Repsch will present a dance presentation for the talent competition. The program chairman, Sadie Greenleaf conducted a contest quiz of Jumbled words found in the kitchen. Prizes were awarded to Janet Frantz, Mary Mc- Caughlin, Jean Bames and Kathleen Groff. She also showed slides of the society’s trip to Nova Scotia. Kathryn Wagner, the trip chairman reported that society 49 will be going on a bus trip to New York on November 23rd. The annual Christmas party will be held at Rhoads Restaurant in Quarryville on December 12th at 6:30 p.m. The program will feature the Bell Ringers from the Lampeter Area. Society 27 Society of Farm Women 27 met recently at the home of Mrs. Sam Heineman. Co hostesses were Mrs. Harry McClenaghan and Mrs. Russell Swarr. Mr. William Heisey presented slides on candle making. Mrs. Robert Shearer was in charge of the devotions and also reported to the society highlights of the November 2 County Convention. In response to roll call, members told “what they gained in life today.” Members voted to disperse $4OO from the treasury as gifts to the following: $2OO to Honduras to be used toward the purchase of seeds and a tractor, gifts of money to two local Mt. Joy families, and fruit baskets will be given to two families. Mrs. Herbert Frey entered a poster in the Paster Contest featuring “Home Safety.” Delegates from Society 27 to State Convention at Harrisburg, January 6, will be-Mrs. Albert Fry, Jr., Mrs. Roy Sauder, Mrs. Robert Shearer and on January 7 Mrs. Albert Fry, Jr., Mrs. John Wolgemuth and Mrs. Roy Wolgemuth. Alternates are Mrs. John Hershey and Mrs. Wayne Millerr The next meeting will be at Mrs. Wayne Miller’s home on December 10. Miss Edith Herr will be the speaker and there will also be a cookie and cookie recipe exchange. Society 28 Society of Farm Women 28 met Thursday evening, Nov. 21, at the home of Mrs. Nelson Kreider. Mrs. Joseph Nolt was co-hostess. The group donated $lO to the Lancaster County Mental Health Ass. and $lO to the United Way of Lancaster. The group will hold a bake sale in the lobby of the Strasburg Bank on December 13, starting at 2:00 P.M. Speaker for the evening was Dr. Calvin Wenger. His topic was entitled “From Where I Stand.” The next meeting will be a Christmas banquet with husbands as guests at Historic Strasburg at 6:30 p.m., December 21. The price of 100 cards and 100 postage stamps can add up to a nice penny. I just saw a special hard-back book for sale in which to keep your list. My list is typed on a big sheet of paper and if I can get it out of the drawer in December and not cross off names of people who have died since last Christmas, then I feel it’s been a good party at the home of Georgeanna Fullerton in Boyertown, Chester County Holiday Homemaker’s Program at the Kimberton Fire Hall. A few weeks ago we had a nice visit from a young Amish couple who hunted our farm to visit us. Ac tually, they only lived a short distance as the crow flies but twice as far using the roads. The girl enjoyed the chest full of a variety of toys and even the boy was friendly and less shy when I had a dish of pretzels for him. Now that our six are almost all grown, we forget how it was to have a houseful of confusion. When I hear of someone who got a “letter” in sports or a trophy, I really feel they earned it. There is so much time and practice required to become proficient in any area. My son started practice and “suicide exercises” as the teacher called them but then was cut as only one third of the fellows could be on the team. Practice meant coming on the activity bus at 6:15 in stead of the usual 3:15 and it was a long dark mile from the bus stop. Why, with all that wasted energy he could have painted the bam. (agway)
