Berks Co. Holds Baby Beef Banquet On Saturday, November 2nd, the Berka County 4-H Baby Beef Club held their annual banquet at the Fleetwood Grange Hall at 7:00 p.m. - The evening was highlighted by James K. Holdombe, an eighteen year bid 4-H member from R.D.I, Mohrsville and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul L. Holcombe, Jr., receiving a silver plate award for exhibiting the grand Champion Steer at the 1974 Berks County 4-H Baby Beef Roundup. The roundup was held on October 18th at the Leesport Market and Auction. Ann E. Holcombe, a fourteen year-old sister of James, received a silver plate award for exhibiting the Reserve Grand Cham pion Steer at the roundup. The silver plates were sponsored by Berks-Lehigh PCA and Federal Land Bank, Leesport and Agway, Berks-Way Zone, Leesport respectively. ; James K. Holcombe was also awarded the Senior Champion Showman and Senior Champion Fitter awards and these awards were sponsored by F. M. Brown & Sons Feeds and Van Mar Feeds. 1 Lori A. Haas, received both the Junior Champion Showmanship Trophy and the Junior Champion Fitter Plaque for her efforts at the 4-H roundup in October. The awards were sponsored respectively by Pennfield Feeds and Swatara Creek Feed Mill. Lisa M. Christman, an eleven year-old 4-H member from R.D.2, Kutztown, and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Christman, won the Most Total Gained Award. Her Simmental Crossbred steer gained a total of 765 pounds in 291 days for a daily gain of 2.63 pounds. This award was sponsored by Swoyer Althouse Feeds, Inc. The banquet speaker was Rev. Roderick H. Sutliff of Belleman’s United Church of Christ, Mohrsville.
