MS Society Recognizes Importance of Volunteers
The National Multiple
Sclerosis Society is the only
national voluntary health
agency in the country
dedicated to finding the
cause, prevention and cure
of MS, called the
“mysterious crippler of
young adults” because it
usually strikes people bet
ween the ages of 20 and 40.
MS and closely related
diseases effect as estimated
500,000 Americans.
The Lancaster County
Chapter is presently serving
186 registered MS patients -
nine of whom reside in the
Lititz area - with drug
payments, loan of equip
ment, counselling, physical
therapy, Visiting Nurse care
and a new three-point patient
program geared to meet the
varying needs of the in
dividual patient.
The role of the volunteer,
with emphasis on services
and fund raising, cannot be
overstated in its importance

A recent recipient of the
Society's highest honor, the
Bronze Hope Chest Award,
was Lorene Greene who
served as the 1973 National
MS Hope Chest Campaign
Chairman. He noted the
continuing need and interest
of volunteers in patient
programs and for the fun
ding necessary to aid
research in finding the cause
and cure of MS.
