The son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Maurice Roth, Jeffrey is a junior at Spring Grove High School. He has been a 4-H member seven years. A member of the Thomasville 4-H Club, County 4-H Beef Club, and County 4-H Horticulture Club, he served as president, vice president, news reporter, and game leader. He also assisted with club activities and events as a teen leader the past three years. The state citizenship contest winner completed projects in horticulture, baby beef, handyman, electric, teen leadership, health, citizenship, en tomology, tractor main tenance, geology, con servation, and automotive care and safety. Active in county 4-H events, Jeffrey participated in the picnic, roundup, camp and officers training. He also took part in the Regional 4-H Teen Leaders Retreat, Regional 4-H Demonstration Days, Pennsylvania 4-H Leader ship Congress, State 4-H Days, National Junior Horticultural Association Convention, and the Citizenship Short Course. He was selected as York County’s Outstanding 4-H Boy in 1973 and Outstanding Junior 4-H Boy in 1971. Commenting on the values of the youth program, Jef frey said: “4-H has shown me the meaning of responsibility and has helped me to mature both mentally and emotionally.” He is one of 40 Com monwealth 4-H members being selected as state winners in the various project categories. 4-H Hogs Sold Thirteen-year-old Tom Ruoss sold his grand champion market hog of the New Holland Fair, recently to Hatfield Packing Co., represented by Ezra Good, field representative with Gehman Feed Mill. With a price of 75 cents a pound, Tom realized $158.25 from the sale of his 211- pound Duroc. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Frank Ruoss, Ephrata R 2. This is the second consecutive year Tom has exhibited the show’s grand champion. The reserve grand champion, owned by Susie Martin, daughter of Mrs. Mary Martin, New Holland R 2, took the top price of the sale when Abe Diffenbach, New Holland Sales Stable, bid 90 cents a pound for the crossbred.
