Saddles
4-H
On October 4th the Boots
and Saddles 4-H Gub met at
the home of-Deb Heidig with
35 members and 19 parents
present.
Before the meeting the
following demonstrations
were given: Deb Heidig on
western riding; Lashon
Bussell on teaching leads;
Dawn Styer on cleaning the
English saddle; Joy
Tomlinson and Denise Hall
on grooming equipment;
Sharon Slein on parts of the
horse and Kathy Van Aulan
on Shipping fever.
The meeting was then
called to order by president
Ray Carmean, he lead the
members in the pledge.
Secretary Deb Heidig called
the roll and read the minutes
of the September meeting.
Treasurer Cheryl Gerhert
gave the report after which
old business was discussed
which included the date for
the Broom - Polo game Oct. 6
and the date for the family
fun show Oct. 19th both to be
held at the Fellenbaum
farm.
Under new business a
letter from Carol Henkel
concerning dressage was
read after which 12 members
said they were interested in
attending if held in Lan
caster County.
The food and game
committee was also selected
for the Halloween party to be
held Nov. Ist at the
Fellenbaums.

Silver Spurs
4-H dub
Silver Spurs 4-H Gub held
its monthly meeting on
October 4th at the home of
Donna Rohrer. President,
Randy Click, led the club
pledge followed by roll call
and dues by junior treasurer,
Sue Baker.
It was noted that Jim
Click, Donna and Jeff Bare
and Margaret Keeney will
participate in the state 4-H
club horse show in various
events. The treasurer’s and
secretary’s reports were
given. They were approved
as read.
The president read a
thank-you letter from Lori
Graham and a letter on
dressage. Anyone interested
in dressage clinics should
notify Carol Henkle. Under
new business was discussed
donating money to the
Lancaster 4-H county council
and to the horse recognition
program. The club is
planning tago on a weekend
trailride at Valley Lea
Riding Gub and to go to
Scream in the Dark.
Following the meeting,
Roberta Stein gave a
demonstration on caring for
horses’ hooves. The next
meeting will be Nov. Ist at
Clicks Trailer Shop.

4-H Club
Broken Bit 4-H Horse Club
recently met at the home of
Jon Keller, Blue Ball.
Cindy Enck, president,
presided over the meeting.
Jane Gregory reported on
4-H County Council activities
and explained the flower
bulb sale.
Rick Buckwalter and
Karen Risser will par
ticipate in the 4-H State
Horse Show to be held in
Harrisburg on November 14
and 15. The club plans to
attend the show.
Movies of this year’s 4-H
district horse show held at
Ryegate Stables in
Mechanicsburg were en
joyed by all present.
The next meeting will be
October 18th at the home of
Brian, Daphne and Natalie
Immel, RD4, Lititz.
Every three or four years a
population explosion of these
small rodents triggers a mass-mi
gration which sees thousands of
them die. While living they grow
to a length of about five inches,
have short tails and ears cov
ered with thick fur.

Memorial Fund
Established for
Meek Boy
A memorial fund to aid in
the relief of hurricane
stricken students in Hon
duras has been established
in the memory of Ray Nelson
Meek, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Jay A. Meek, Kinzer Rl.
The seven-year-old Meek
boy was killed by a car
Friday, while crossing the
highway after getting off a
school bus.
Checks, which are tax
deductible, should be made
out to “Eastern Mennonite
Board - Meek Memorial Gift
for Honduras,” and mailed
to Christ Landis, 88 Glendale
